Fall Colors Between the Raindrops

I have taken quite a few autumn pictures. I am just getting around to posting them! They are from the first of September through the 17th. We have had raining cats and dogs and then brilliant sunshine. These are sunshine days!
Watching the neighbor dogs bark from across the lake.
I liked this picture. It is a golden eye sleeping on the lake. They are one of the few ducks that sleep in the middle of the lake during most kinds of weather. Rain or shine!!
This day was stunning, though. September 10.
I like the twists in this tree. You can almost see the far tree looking surprised around the larger tree's twist! (eyes and a nose)

I took the burls on this tree from different angles. This one struck me as prettier with the popping color of the red rose hips.
 Gorgeous sunset from the house.
Purple skies always make me smile!
The Monday of the digging, I stayed out of the way of the men and hunted for a few raindrop pictures. It had poured on Sunday, yet Monday had dawned warm and lovely.
Reflections of fall in a liquid kaleidoscope!
These guys make me laugh. They are so funny. I keep wondering if it is the same ones up there. In one afternoon you can hear them and watch them as they circle and circle and squawk and circle and decide who is in front of where. I have said they are practicing migrating with the newcomers. These are Sandhill Cranes. You can see their long legs and necks in one of the photos-I took several, but decided to only post two!

Hopefully, they will get their act together and fly south. After all the rain, you can see new snow on the mountains. Termination Dust. Winter is definitely around the corner.

Autumn Reflections

I've used this photo in a previous post, but it from the Kenai library parking lot and is a beautiful picture of fall leaves!
Obi has eclectic taste buds. He'll eat veggies, fruit, meat, anything that falls to the floor, and nasturtiums!
It seems one night Obi barked like crazy for a reason. It seems there was a moose altercation of some sort. Notice the bench is still in place, but the capstone from on top of the brick was knocked clear!

The photos below are of one evening, around 645, out on the lake.

The North Kenai Methodist church has a resident moose. I didn't get close to it, it just looks that way! I was in the car for the first picture. I was outside the car for the second one.

It is wonderful what I can see now! Fall is brighter and so are words and all sorts of things out there.

Jon's Alaska-Sunday

With the exception of the first two photos, Jon took the rest and shared them with his mum. What a nice kid!!!
Jon's car was upgraded and he went for it. I'm not entirely sure how we'll manage to get mum into it, but it appears her car will NOT get worked on this week, so we will not need it for mum's appointments.
Jon stopped on the way down from ANC a couple of times. It was raining and overcast, but he managed to get some pretty shots of the Inlet. He had a spot of trouble and missed the turn for the Sterling Hwy and ended up in Seward. He eventually reached the house. He was pretty tired since his Saturday started around 3.
Sunday morning, the lake was like glass. Jon went out in the kayak-he really needs a larger vessel, but enjoyed himself. It astounds me how I take photos of the same sorts of things and his are so different. (I wish Chris J was alive to see them, she always enjoyed seeing pictures of home...)

In the afternoon we went to both the Tesoro beach (Salamatof) and Arness Dock (Nikishka Beach).

His second journey onto the lake resulted in more stellar photos. I've tried to get the ducks in flight, this is not bad at all!

We ended the day by eating outside and later heading into Kenai for sustenance for a younger male palate. Actually, it wasn't much different from what I get mum and I! But, we are pretty much set for the week. I hope!

Temperature is dropping!!!!

It is getting COLD out there!!!! I wish I had a transporter to trade my shorts for sweatshirts. Apparently, it is even too cold to get the paper to the paper box!
Frosted golden leaves- they looked better in the sunshine! All glittery and decorated with crystals.
I had emptied the hose once, but it appears I managed to forget the last time. I had left it hooked up cuz mom wanted to wash the windows. After letting it thaw, Debbie was able to disconnect the thing and I put it away for the winter. Hooray for wonderful angel friends!
Somehow these were a lot more fun in 'Real Genius'......
Went out after dinner to dip a paddle in the lake again. I had to break thru a skin of ice on the edge! There was even ice in the kayak! I came back to shore before it was able to melt.
Stunning sky tonight, I probably should have looked for a sunset--but I enjoyed the lake. It is always different. I can see why Thoreau enjoyed his pond so much. An amazing ecosystem of ever changing worlds.
Quite possibly the last lake selfie. I did a face plant coming out of the shop where we keep the life jacket. I was very glad I didn't trip getting out of the kayak!!! (I am not sure what I tripped over. More than likely, it was my feet.)

If you look at this reflection closely, you can see a 'D' and what might be some other letters. The 'close up' I took didn't come out very well.
I think it reads 'Doo'...whatever that might mean!

Before the Autumn Rains

Lots of colors in hidden places.
These, I believe, are elegant goldenrod. They change from the ground up and remind me of flames.
Looking down the lake, framed in spruce and birch.
More colorful stumps-this one has a figure inside it!!!!!!
Mum's dog, Obiwan, is waiting by the door. He likes to be outside, but much prefers in. Because his food dish is there.

Fireweed fluff on the bluff! I love the flowers that grow outside the limits of Erik's park.
Lord of Sea and Sky-this hymn is one I think of when I gaze out on the mouth of the Kenai.

Love the clouds above the Inlet last Friday (September 11).
